You must be thinking it’s insane to be a mom and then write something about “how to make time go faster as a mom” because when do mothers have time after all?
Well first of all I feel ya all
Secondly in this blog, I will tell you about spending your time in a purposeful and meaningful way. I will address how to handle burn outs, break downs and exhausting moments. At the end we shall all know how to regulate our emotions as a mom.
I can understand that as a mom the tasks feel never-ending and repetitive. It all starts from breakfast struggles to managing a clean house and timely bedtime routines. However, we all feel that we are failing at certain moments. The chores are endless and time is always limited.
Therefore this blog is all about speeding up time and making it more manageable for mums.
1. Shift Your Perspective
Perspective matters a lot. A positive perspective about everything, even time, can make it more proactive. This is the main reason that while addressing “ how to make time go faster as a mom” my first consideration is about shifting your perspective.
Mindset Change:
Mindset change is simply about changing the way you think about a certain thing. A positive mindset can help your time go faster in a pleasant manner. For example, whenever I am stressed out from my daily chores or fussy kids I think:
MY LIFE IS DOOMED
Or
MOTHERS HAVE NO LIFE OF THEIR OWN
This should not be your mindset. Such thoughts just aggravated my emotions and made me aggressive. After 8 years of parenting and three kid,s I have tried my best to change this mindset. I feel thankful and blessed to have kids that are healthy and playful. It’s ok if the house remains messy. I will organize it later but the marks of my aggression and harsh words will remain in my kid’s minds forever.
Living in the Moment:
Living in the moment will help you feel that your time is less overwhelming. Mons are most of the time overwhelmed. They are tired and exhausted, which makes them feel sensitive most of the time.
IT’S OK
But you can change this. If you are still reading this blog about “how to make time go faster as a mom” then you DO want to change yourself. You can do this by focusing more on the positive aspects of parenting. Appreciate yourself for the smallest milestone you achieve. I was the happiest when my son started holding the pencil properly.
IT’S YOU BEHIND EVERY ACCOMPLISHMENT OF YOUR CHILD
You’re their mother because GOD considered you capable of raising them. NONE ELSE WAS WORTHY OF IT BUT YOU.
2. Stay Busy with Purposeful Activities
Staying busy with purposeful activities really helped my time go faster. Most of all it healed my postpartum depression. What appeared to be a monotonous day no longer remained so.
I started earning
My days became more productive.
But how did I do it?
I started structuring my day into purposeful activities. I used to plan activities that were predictable and quicker.I have two school-going kids now. Before none of them were school-going I had two boys. So we had time for everything. After breakfast, I cooked. While I was cooking they were playing. Sometimes I would give them paints and paper to draw and color.
Screen time, lunchtime, nap time and one thing that was mandatory was outdoor activities.
During outdoor activities, there were no restrictions. They could do whatever they wanted.
- Water the plants
- Play with sand
- Run around
- Ride their bicycles
For me when I put them to bed I used to do freelancing. I have been into many things before I started writing. Digital marketing, e-commerce. I have always been into learning and exploring new skills and learning opportunities. This made me feel very productive and more confident.
3. Practice Mindful Multitasking
When you are looking for activities about how to make time go faster as a mom I would strongly recommend mindful multitasking. I believe moms are born multitaskers. They can cook clean and look after their kids simultaneously.
A lovely addition to mindful multitasking is adding activities you enjoy to your daily tasks. I am a music lover so I could put one earphone in my ear and listen to my favourite music while cooking, organizing and looking after my kids. You wouldn’t believe it but I actually used to listen to online lectures while walking and playing with my kids.
What’s more important is not to pressurize yourself with multitasking activities.
Remember your sanity is MOST important.
5. Engage in Personal Growth
Pursue Hobbies | I always stress about not forgetting yourself when you become a mom. Pursue hobbies and things you like. You can allocate ten to fifteen minutes a day to spend upon your hobbies. My SIL loves stitching and embroidery. She also has keen interest in gems so she spends her time learning about gems and stitching. |
Learn New Skills | Do you love cooking?Try new recipesThe internet is full of knowledge, in fact free knowledge. Last year I learnt how to drive. Believe those half an hour driving lessons were the most enjoyable part of my day. Learning goes on with life. |
Social Connections | Social connections help you gain more emotional support. Join women and mom interactive groups. Engage in online discussions.One thing that I found out to be very helpful, especially during my PPD phase was connecting with my friends. I made a routine to call any one of my friends after 2 or three days to have a small chit-chat session. I used to send voice notes and interact with them. FRIENDSHIP HEALS YOU STRONGER AND FASTER |
