Indoor children’s activities are both fun and practical. For the past few years I have seen a mushroom growth of indoor theme parks and activity centers. Parents also prefer to take children to indoor games because they remain unaffected from the weather conditions and are safer as well.
Indoor children’s activities are not limited to theme parks only. Parents can play several indoor games with children inside their homes as well. This blog explores children’s indoor activities from all dimensions.
What are Indoor Children’s Activities
Indoor children’s activities are games that are played inside a space. How they differ from outdoor activities is that they follow certain conditions that are peculiar to the space where they are being performed.
The number of people participating in indoor activities is also limited.
What is the Need of Indoor Children Activities
The present world is an entirely different one. The circumstances have change or I must say “transformed”.Parents have now become more conscious and protective about their children. The time when kids went out to play skates and basketball with their friends are almost gone. Kids now remain sticked to their screens and parents for the sake of keeping them in front of their eyes don’t mind having their kids minimum interaction with the outside world.
During such time their is a need for some healthy and practical activities that could instill cognitive development inside children yet keep them busy. Indoor children’s activities are part of those healthy activities which both parents and children can enjoy together.
Parents have to search on Google “indoor children;s activities near me” with their location on and they will get to know about various indoor children’s activity centres around them.
Activities for 2 Year olds
You must have heard a lot about terrible twos. Rainy day activities for toddlers are especially designed and plan to kleet them busy and manage their busting energy levels. If you ask me can a toddler stay still for two seconds I would say
NO, NEVER, IMPOSSIBLE
My 7 year old has always been a hyperactive and restless child. So if he sits quietly for 5 minutes straight that means he is not well. Most of the times he is feverish
Here is a list of indoor toddler activities for 2 year olds that you can add to your list of indoor children;’s activities to keep them engaged.
Stepping stones:
Although this game is among the favorite indoor games for toddlers of course. However for mothers it is a BIG MESS!
How is it played?
You gather pillows or cushions of all sizes and make a pathway with them. Then step on these and cross over. My boys although they are not toddlers anymore still play this game. I get a backache after pulling up all cushions zillion times.
Tunnel Crawl:
Its a simple harmless game in which you just drape a comforter or a blanket around some chairs which are aligned together. Your toddler just has to pass through the drape assuming its a tunnel. Trust me if you have back pain issues that you will need a painkiller once you join your toddler.
Mattress Slide:
My boys love mattress slide even now when they are no more toddlers. You just need a mattress and place it in an inclined position on a low couch or bed. Lesser the height the safer it is.
Among all indoor children’s activities this is the easiest and most convenient one.
Fort Building:
Fort building is among the most creative indoor children’s activities. My kids have a bunk bed. So they tigh a blanket on top and make pillow walls . They also use their bean bags for wall making purposes. This creates an enclosed surface which they call their “ fort”.
You need to engage kids in the making process and also in the dismantling process. This will help kids learn creative play and organization skills.
Other Indoor Children’s Activities
Here is a list of indoor children’s activities that parents can play with their kids inside their homes.
Hide and Seek:
Hide and seek is a fun game. Just count to 10 meanwhile everybody is hiding and then seek. Honestly this is my kids’ all time favorite game .
Role Playing:
Role playing is avery creative game. As a parent it will give you a chance to know more about your child’s insights. My elder sons often role play as a customer and barber. The younger one gives the elder one a massage and haircut (of course with the toy scissor). Sometimes he also gives him a facial with cold water. I honestly love watching them role playing.
Sometimes they role play as a shop keeper and a baker. They decorate their whole bunk bed as a bakery with their toys.
Paper Games:
Paper games are also among fun indoor children’s games. You can make drawings and ask your kids to color them. Cardboard painting is also another fun paper game. Ask your kid to draw whatever he or she wants. Believe me you will get amazed by the storm of ideas and imagination your kids will show on a piece of paper.
Play Dough:
These days kids have a lot of options to play inside. Play dough and slime are among those options. Play dough colorful and malleable is a great way to enhance your child;s fine motor skills. Let your kid explore different shapes and colors using a lay dough.
My Two Cents
Indoor children activities are a harmless and entertaining way to get your kids engaged. Although they require immense effort from you as a parent as well. Yet these are the best way to keep your kids stay busy and stay away from harmful impacts of screen.
