You might have heard the term “th Gifted Child”. The indigo children is a further classification of the children who are gifted. This is a unique concept that defines children with supernatural and unique traits. In this blog we shall explain the concept of indigo children. Also we shall have a detailed look at the indigo children’s traits.
History of the Concept
The origin of the concept of indigo children takes us back to the early 1970’s. Nancy Ann Tappe who was a Californian psychic first defined this concept. She was the first to observe such children with unusual auras. What became a challenge was how to parent such children. To find out the answer her work was further studied by several authors and educators,
A book named “The Indigo Children-The New Kids Have Arrived” was published at that time. The purpose of the book was to guide parents on parenting indigo children.
Indigo Children Meaning
The definition of indigo children is quite complex yet simple in terms of words. Indigo children are defined as kids with supernatural traits and abilities. Supernatural is self-explanatory. However, the concept is hard to digest for modern parents and kids alike.
These kids are supernatural because they have a high level of abilities such as intuition, intelligence and psychic abilities. They have a high value of empathy. The main reason for their existence in the world is to help humanity.
Another major characteristic of such children is that they challenge societal boundaries. They are simply different and unique from the usual concept of kids.
Why are they called indigo children?
It is because of their supernatural aura that is personalized with indigo color.
The third eye chakra that has its association with psychic knowledge and intuition is also indigo in color. This can be the reason to call these children indigo children. Because they also possess the same characteristics.
Indigo Children Traits
In order to have a better understanding of indigo children we shall discuss the indigo children traits. Let’s have a look at the indigo children traits to know and identify them better.
Having High Expectations from Oneself
This is a major characteristic of indigo children. I can personally identify with this trait as well. These children set high expectations from themselves, Not from themselves but from others as well. They expect others to reach the same level of perfection as they desire.
They sometimes set the bar too high for themselves and if they fail to achieve it they become depressed.
I have personally faced this my entire life. Especially in the case of my academics. During my Graduation I wanted to Graduate as a GOLD MEDALIST. Although I did succeed in it, for all four years of my University life I did nothing except studies. I guess this is the diligence you need to achieve your goals when you have set them so high.
Rebellious
Indigo children are meant to push the boundaries. They are rebellious in nature. They never comply with authority. That is why they always question the one in charge. Because they are not meant to follow. Or we can say that they believe so.
If you are never ready to negotiate and rigid in your views and opinions then you have the trait of such children.
Evolving
These kids never appreciate going with the flow. They make their own world. They are meant to challenge the norms of the society. This is the main reason that they are always evolving. They do not appreciate the predefined methods of anything. Be it doing business, studying,or even the way of existing.
What’s unique about them is that they are continuously evolving. They will determine and create new ways of doing everything. That is why they are unique.
Often Misunderstood Among Family Members
This trait comes with no surprise. Of Course, when you are rebellious and headstrong, you question everything and if there is something different in you from others you will get misunderstood among your family members.
Such children feel the same.
They feel that their parents and siblings are unable to understand them. They fail to comprehend such children;s feelings and emotions.
A Strong Connection with Nature
Indigo children are very close to nature. They have the true sense to appreciate nature. Although it doesn;t seem like a supernatural trait yet it does define them. They appreciate nature. Such children have a personality that believes that both nature and human beings co-exist with each other.
My Two Cents
There is no doubt in the fact that indigo children are unique. They are no doubt gifted. The real challenge here is the identification and later the parenting of such children. I have been an advocate of gentle parenting in all my blogs. As mentioned, such children are rebellious so the parents need to be gentle and compassionate. They need to be empathetic and understanding so that their children’s qualities are reinforced and not suppressed.
